Helping Iraqi Civil Society

Women’s organisations in Iraq are keen to learn more about international legal instruments regarding human rights.  They are particularly interested in the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and how to write a shadow report. The government of Kurdistan is also interested in writing the formal report to the United Nations.  The training will assist both civil society and the public sector to learn about CEDAW and how to write a report and shadow report.

The training will take place later in the year with preparations already begun. Serene Communications is working with partner organisations in Kurdistan.

Serene Communications also organised a number of meetings for the delegation from the University of Suleimaniya both in Bristol and London in collaboration with the Gender and Violence Centre at Bristol University.  The Centre at the University in Suleimaniya is funded by DFID.
